About the storm and harmony of being

There are some days you will never forget. Those that split your life into “before” and “after”. One of those days had been awaiting me. I remember it well. The silly rain, squealing wind, the destruction, the despair, the end. When the skies closed above me and the downpour started it was too late. I wasn’t quick enough to run. I stopped, pitched my tent, hid inside and waited. Hours passed and nothing changed. A day passed, two days passed and the storm only got stronger. That is when it began…

…here…

…there wasn’t much to do. I spent the days reading, writing, playing with rubik’s cube. Mainly I was trying to sleep, but it wasn’t possible, the rain was noisy, the wind kept shaking with my home. And the thunders wouldn’t stop…

…two days later, it all stopped for a moment, I went outside. But it was just silence before the real storm. It came without warning…

…it was too quick, the gale tearing apart my tent, everything is flying, I’m trying to rescue whatever I can. Some food was blown away. The tent is damaged, I have nowhere to hide…

Everything is wet, torn apart and beaten. Only by miracle my scooter is still standing. We have to get out of here, but where to? There is nothing around in this wast tundra. Drenched and suffering hypothermia, it wasn’t good. I jumped on the scooter and tried to get to the nearest village. It was a dangerous journey. I tried to be as fast as wind. I couldn’t, with 100km/h (62mph) on the clock, the wind was still blowing from behind…

…ther is no hill, the land is flat. It is me riding under such angle because of the side winds…

…I was lucky. I made it to the village alive and found a hostel. Everything is wet, completely. I counted the losses, dried my things and sewed the tent. It was a Christian hostel, The New Testament lied on the table. I read it and fell asleep, for the first time after two months in a bed… so soft, smelling nice. In the meantime, the storm was raging outside for the whole day and night…

…three days since it started, the storm calmed down. Only the wind was pushing the clouds in the sky at incredible speed. I stopped by a small church…

…I was sitting there, thinking about my own stupidity. I underestimated the storm. I was tired, cold and I made wrong decisions. These kind of fights with nature are easy to lose…

For a long time, I was sitting there, in a harmony with the whole world, previously unknown to me. Maybe I needed this kind of shock, to break the emptiness I carried within me. I found something important. The clear and natural feeling, which our fast living society keeps suppressing every day. It was there all the time, inside me, but only now, it got a chance to shine. You can call it love, God, or energy, it is up to you. I call it “the harmony of being”.

  1. Tomas, I very much enjoyed reading your blog, and hope that you go on telling tales from the road. You are leaving the reader somewhat with a cliff hanger here… I am curious how things worked out, and how you continued your journey.

    • Hi Sonja, I’m a bit neglecting the english version of my blogs, I didn’t know if anyone is reading it. I will post something soon, glad you like my blog 🙂
